Abstract

Aunque el Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CIB) se inauguró solemnemente en 1958, las bibliotecas que tanto contribuyeron a la formación científica de la mejor cantera de investigadores en Biología y Biomedicina de España, han pasado por etapas muy diferentes y complicadas hasta constituir la actual Biblioteca del CIB. Sus fondos abarcan una multiplicidad de materias poco común, coincidente con las líneas de investigación de los numerosos grupos que fueron integrándose en el centro. Para entender este hecho hay que tener en cuenta que el CIB, desde su gestación en 1950, a instancias de Marañón, Albareda y otros prestigiosos científicos de la época dispersos por Centros del CSIC y Universidades, fue el núcleo aglutinante de consagrados investigadores y jóvenes promesas que, con su vocación, ilusión y tesón, lograron otorgarle un indudable prestigio a nivel internacional. En 1956, el Instituto S. Ramón y Cajal, el Jaime Ferrán y el Instituto de Endocrinología Experimental, se trasladan al emblemático edificio construido por Fisac en la calle Velázquez.
