Las Cortes de Castilla y la leva para los Presidios: la gestión de la primera recluta obligatoria de los Austrias

Abstract

Durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII la carga contributiva que debió soportar Castilla aumentó. Las Cortes jugaron un papel importante a la hora de conseguir más dinero y hombres para las guerras que luchaba la monarquía, por lo que la negociación con éstas fue fundamental. Dentro de las nuevas demandas a las Cortes siempre estuvieron presentes las peticiones de soldados. El cambio fundamental se gestará en 1634, cuando las Cortes aprueben un nuevo servicio que consistía en el reclutamiento de 12.000 hombres para completar así la dotación teórica de 18.000 soldados que debían tener los Presidios, las guarniciones peninsulares y del norte de África. Esta fue la primera recluta forzosa que se produjo en Castilla en el siglo XVII, la precursora de muchas que le sucedieron, por lo que estudiarla es una pieza fundamental para conocer mejor los sistemas de reclutamiento y negociación empleados en la época para llenar los ejércitos y presidios de Monarquía Hispánica.
