Hospitales rurales en la Diócesis de Granada (siglo XVIII)

Abstract

Las medidas para mejorar la situación sanitaria en el siglo XVIII provocaron el debate en torno a los hospitales. En Granada el regio patronato eclesiástico había permitido la creación de una red diocesana de hospitales desde los inicios del siglo XVI. Además de los hospitales de la capital, en el resto de la diócesis pervivían hospitales llamados “de partido” y “de tránsito”. Eran centros de pequeñas dimensiones, con muchas carencias y, salvo excepciones, con dificultades económicas. Pero eran necesarios para atender las áreas rurales. Con todas estas limitaciones, los hospitales comarcales de la diócesis de Granada (seis “de partido” y nueve “de tránsito”) fueron respetados por las autoridades ilustradas. No sucumbieron a las medidas centralizadoras y regalistas, aunque sus rentas fueron administradas por el Real Hospicio de Granada. Pero tampoco parece muy eficaz la asistencia sanitaria de estos hospitales. El estudio se basa en el expediente tramitado en la Cámara de Castilla relativo a los hospitales de Granada y su diócesis en el último cuarto del siglo XVIII.
