Las campesinas y las letras. Alfabetización y analfabetismo en la Costa da Morte a finales del Antiguo Régimen

Abstract

El trabajo de las mujeres gallegas fue fundamental para la supervivencia por el tipo de organización familiar, de economía campesina y de producción agrícola. El coste oportunidad de su instrucción fue demasiado elevado y tradicionalmente fueron marginadas de los esfuerzos alfabetizadores. En esta propuesta se pretende analizar los niveles de alfabetización y analfabetismo de las mujeres en la Costa da Morte, situada en la franja noroccidental gallega, a finales del Antiguo Régimen. Mediante el uso masivo de protocolos notariales se intentará establecer los niveles de firmantes a lo largo del siglo XVIII, para ver la evolución del proceso y, finalmente, se examinarán los porcentajes de alfabetización del Censo de 1860.
