Cómo enseñar a hablar a un elefante: un cuento de La gran sultana

Abstract

Estudio de un cuento popular incluido en la comedia de Cervantes "La gran sultana", atendiendo a sus antecedentes latinos, su proyección en la literatura europea desde la Edad Media hasta el siglo XVIII y su presencia en la tradición sefardí. Se identifican dos variedades del cuento y se pone de manifiesto la difusión que alcanzó en España en unos años concretos de finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII y se especula acerca de las vías por las que pudo llegar a Cervantes.
