Campesinos y cautivos en la Guerra de Sucesión y el ejemplo “de Almansa a Asturias”

Abstract

La suerte de los apresados en campaña pasaba a depender de la aplicación de unas normas morales más o menos compartidas, en las que cobraba importancia su estrato social y la condición expresa de prisionero de guerra. Con ello, era relevante el valor de la palabra, unido al honor derivado de la profesión militar. Para los captores, a pesar de ser aquellos una notable carga, lo común sería que no les dejaran de atender sus necesidades básicas, aunque en determinados momentos hubiera cierto desconocimiento de su número y situación. Y fueron las clases populares quienes debieron sufrir su presencia, que afectaba a sus medios de vida y rutinas, aunque no se observan problemas a reseñar de carácter político o ideológico. Es más, se dieron incluso relaciones personales y comerciales, en su mayoría destinadas a cubrir las necesidades básicas de aquéllos.
