Abstract

[EN] Most of the Upper Cretaceous rocks in the Alinyà valley (Eastern Pyrenees, Spain) may be grouped into two tectonic units: the Montsec Unit and the Port del Comte Unit. The Montsec Unit was displaced several kilometres southward and overthrusts the Port del Comte Unit. Several small slices are stacked between both units. The age of the Cretaceous rocks of the Montsec unit range in age from the Upper Santonian (P. santoniensis and 0. hottingeri filozones) and the lower Maastrichtian (L. socialis zone). In the Port del Comte unit Cretaceous sediments of Maastrichtian-Campanian age are less than 100 m thick and correspond to very shallow water facies. The slices between both units must be placed in an intermediate location in a palinspastic restoration.
