Recordando el 711: La memoria de la conquista de al-Andalus en el mundo actual. Representaciones y controversias

Abstract

En este artículo, se realiza un repaso de la situación de los estudios sobre la memoria de al-Andalus y el uso simbólico de ese período histórico en diferentes contextos espacio-temporales, a través de la exposición de una serie de ejemplos y manifestaciones de diversa índole del recuerdo del 711, de su protagonista Tariq b. Ziyad y de al-Andalus en general, en las sociedades del mundo actual. El tratamiento de este período histórico en los libros de texto de historia o en la literatura, así como el uso del nombre del conquistador beréber para denominar diferentes lugares u objetos, entre otros aspectos, permiten observar el uso simbólico de este momento de la historia peninsular y de sus protagonistas dentro de las reivindicaciones identitarias de ciertos colectivos. En la última parte de este trabajo, el estudio se centra en los debates que ha generado y sigue generando el recuerdo de este período de la historia, tanto dentro de España, como fuera, prestando especial atención a la conmemoración del XIII centenario de la conquista de al-Andalus
