Bases moleculares de la floración.

Abstract

La floración es un proceso complejo que ha fascinado desde tiempos remotos a científicos y pensadores, pero solo desde hace veinte años se han empezado a determinar las bases moleculares que rigen este fenómeno. Las plantas han adaptado una complicada red de señalización molecular que les sirve para percibir las condiciones ambientales (sobre todo, luz y temperatura) y decidir el mejor momento del año para florecer. Se presentan los últimos conocimientos sobre el modo en que las plantas memorizan el paso del invierno, identifican la estación según la duración del día e integran señales internas para producir el florígeno. Esta sustancia se genera en las hojas y se desplaza por los haces vasculares hasta los ápices, donde desencadena la formación de las flores. La plasticidad de la floración se refleja, a nivel molecular, en la integración de los cambios ambientales.
