Abstract

[EN] The new industrial employment can be considered as a privileged indicator of the spatial and socioeconomic mutations that affect to city-regions as Madrid. Since those of structural character in the new phase of capitalist development, to specific changes in the labour market, or new forms of inequality among territories visible to all scales. Thus, the analysis of conventional statistical sources (EPA, Social Security…) has allowed reinterpreting the fall of the industrial employment not in terms of general deindustrialization, but of transformation of the meaning and characteristics of the industrial activity, in relation with the capacity of pulling from advanced services considered strategic in the new economy. Beyond the quantity, the quality and the content of the new industrial employment, approximated through the statistics of contracts of the City Hall of Madrid, confirm the contribution of the industry to the quality of the employment, the intense process of tertiarization, visible in the type of occupations and formative levels, as well as a new spatial logic.
