El largo ensayo que Arendt dedicó en 1958 a la Revolución aplastada en Hungría en 1956 contenía una prefiguración explícita de la posibilidad de que el sistema de dominación soviético en Centroeuropa y Europa experimentase un repentino derrumbe político, es decir, justo lo que ocurrió en 1989.
