Como afirma Terry Eagleton kantianamente en su crítica a diversas teorías relativistas, «la reflexión sobre uno mismo […] forma parte de lo que somos y esto puede llevarse a cabo con un apasionado espíritu crítico» (Eagleton, 2005: 73). ¿Pero cómo se puede desarrollar ese espíritu, cómo cultivarlo, si ya no hay saberes que lo promuevan? Con las humanidades encerradas —enterradas— en adaptativas academias solo nos queda la ciencia (natural y social) como único saber válido, pero «disolvente —como afirma Lamo— de todo saber de fines». Por eso los fines se buscan allí donde, a menudo, la razón duerme.
