Abstract

The paper is divided into several chapters. Firstly, a brief historical introduction on the origins of Informes contains an analysis of the main stages in its evolution, particularly 1948-1981, 1981-2006 and from 2006 to the present, with a diachronic study of the variation in its content. While in its earliest stages the journal was designed primarily for an industrial scientific-technical readership, at present it focuses more on the needs of the scientific and educational community. The journal’s graphic design is also addressed, from the vantage of its role as a conveyor belt for knowledge over this period, with reference not only to the evolution of its covers, some of which are genuine works of art, but also to the layout of its interiors. Finally, the paper explores journal circulation throughout its history, from its originally large print runs to the present decline in the hard copy numbers, offset by the broader dissemination afforded by new Internet-based vehicles. A series of relevant conclusions can be drawn from this detailed study of "Informes de la Construcción". Arguably the number one vehicle for the transfer of construction science and technology in its early years, it continues to be a major player in this area of knowledge, essentially within the scientific community.

[EN] The 60th anniversary of the institution of the journal "Informes de la Construcción" and the Second Construction Research Congress provide an excellent occasion for the present editors of the journal to explore the importance of this source of information for the historic study of the scientific and technical development of construction in Spain throughout this period. More than a mere vehicle for publicizing new techniques and materials on the domestic arena, the journal has played and continues to play an important international role in knowledge transfer, particularly in Latin America.
