Abstract

[EN] The Zona Media and the Altiplano potosino, Mexico, are similar areas because of the abundance of gypsum in their lower parts, an also because of their analogous socieconomy. This Thesis is organizad in five Chapters, the first is a general introduction, and the fifth contains the conlusions. The other three Chapters investigate the location, extent, physic and chemical characteristics, mineralogy, taxonomic classification, and use potential of the gypsiferous soils in both areas. The information generated by this study is important for the research in gypseous lands. As an example, the physical, chemical and micromorphological data are part of the information needed for land quality evaluation, and for the rational management of these lands.
