Secuestro de carbono mediante laboreo de conservación bajo condiciones semiáridas Mediterráneas: ¿utopía o realidad?

Abstract

La técnica denominada laboreo de conservación surge en los años treinta, tras la intensa erosión eólica (dust bow/) derivada de los años de sequía que tuvieron que padecer diversas regiones de Estados Unidos, circunstancia que motivó la pérdida de millones de toneladas de suelo. Ante esta situación proliferaron sistemas de laboreo que evitaban a toda costa la vertedera, con volteo de suelo, técnica que facilitaba la erosión. También se procuró reducir el número de labores como medida adicional para limitar la erosión de los suelos. De esta forma se acuñó el término de 'mínimo laboreo', que todavía no contemplaba la presencia de una cubierta de residuos vegetales como componente principal de la técnica de laboreo de conservación (Gajri y col, 2002).
