I. Aceite de Camellia japonica L.

Abstract

[EN] There is carried out a physiographic, edaphic and climatic study of Galician soils were the Camellia japonica is cultivated. The pH, the organic matter and humidity were determined and the mechanical analysis of the soil was undertaken at the place where the samples were taken. The oil of the camellia seeds is extracted and the organoleptic characteristics, proteins, etc., and the different physical and chemical constants are determined. A quantitative study of the total of the solid and liquid fatty acids is made and their characteristic constants are fixed. The oil content of the kernel is 64.4%, that is to say about the same as the observed one of other habitats. The principal characteristic constants do not greatly differ from those given for the oil of other geographical zones, with the exception of the indexes of hydroxyl and non-saponification, which reach high values.
