Abstract

[EN] one of the better botanists of the Pyrenean and Cantabrian mountains, Prof. Pedro montserrat (born at mataró, 1918) is still in activity. We comment on his botanical papers and works, developped along more than sixty years. He began at Barcelona –along the 40ies-50ies– with Prof. Losa, and they studied the flora of ordesa, Guara, andorra and turbón; later they traveled to the montes palentino-leoneses and they followed by the C-W Pyrenees first of all from madrid and later from Jaca. dr. montserrat also worked with Profs. Braun-Blanquet and Bolòs by aragón and Basque Country, ebro depression and surrounding mountains. He also studied meadows and pastures along Iberian Peninsula and, in 1968, he established the JaCa Herbarium. He collected nr.200.000 sheets, he described nr. 70 new taxa, he worked for “Flora iberica” (Thalictrum, Viola, Rosa, Laserpitium…), he colaborated with the “atlas Florae europaeae”... He also wrote 500 articles and books, half of them devoted to our mountains. He conducted 12 Phd thesis on flora and vegetation, he teached on ecology… the author concluded the importance of the montserrat’s works so that they are a reference for the botanical study of Pyrenees and Cantabrian mountains.
