Abstract

En la actualidad existen no pocos suelos contaminados por metales pesados como consecuencia de antiguas explotaciones mineras. Dichos suelos, que presentan importantes fenómenos erosivos, necesitan ser recuperados y, en su caso, ser revegetados por diferentes medios (Jordán 1987, Hester and Harrison 1997, McCutcheon 2003). Este tema concita un interés creciente (Lopez-Arias y Grau, 2005) y va a exigir un esfuerzo en los próximos años, como consecuencia de las directivas sobre protección de suelos que sean emanadas por la UE. Los metales pesados alteran procesos ecológicos vitales, además de causar efectos dañinos sobre las plantas pudiendo convertirse en un peligro para los seres vivos que las consumen. El objetivo de este estudio es doble, por un lado se centra en conocer la cantidad de metales que se acumulan en la parte aérea de las plantas, que crecen en uno de los suelos más contaminados de la mina estudiada, con elevadas cantidades de Pb y Zn, y situado en pendiente en una de las cotas más elevadas de la mina. Las especies que crecen en el lugar, son consumidas por la fauna silvestre, principalmente conejos (la zona está llena de madrigueras) ya que la mina se halla en un coto de caza; y por otro estudiar, en un bioensayo realizado en invernadero, los contenidos de los lixiviados que se generan en dicho suelo y que pueden afectar a los pastos y sembrados circundantes.
