Abstract

La dinámica orgánica edáfica esta regida por factores ambientales, los cuales determinan el doble proceso de mineralización y humificación orgánica. Si el primer proceso favorece la liberación de CO2, el segundo permite la acumulación de C orgánico (y bioelementos asociados, en ambos casos). Este doble juego posee consecuencias transcendentales sobre la contaminación entendida ésta de una manera general. Así, en el caso del aumento de CO2 átmosférico un incremento de la mineralización supone un agravamiento del problema, mientras que una mayor humificación sería una posible alternativa de solución al actual incremento de CO2 observado. Por contrapartida, en el primer caso, los bioelementos quedarían liberados y pueden ser absorbidos por las plantas, mientras que en el último, los bioelementos quedarían atrapados en las sustancia húmicas y sólo lentamente serian utilizables por aquéllas. En el caso de materia orgánica originada o proveniente de subproductos agricolas, urbanos o industriales, su origen y composición previa va a determinar su posible utilidad y uso, no existiendo normas generales. Similarmente, cuando se desea disminuir la actividad de elementos tóxicos llegados a un determinado medio, la aplicación de materia orgánica puede agravar o paliar el problema, dependiendo de las características particulares del contaminante.
