[EN]A Bibliographical review about the accumulation, decomposition of the forest litter and nutrient realese is made. The review has four chapters; the first summarizes the litter production of the mild-climate forests; the second deals with the nature and decomposition of the dead leaves. The third turns on the biogenic elements, accumulated and released for the litter, and the fourth discusses the theoretical phases of the leaf decomposition and the factors that affect the decomposition rate. At last, the significance of the "litter-humus-soil" system in the humification studies is pointed out.
