Abstract

Cuando se clan diferencias entre los sexos en Ia frecuencia de vigilancia o protección en ayes, suelen ser los machos los que principalmente se ocupan de este tipo de comportamiento, bien se trate de animales viviendo en grupos familiares (Turdokies striatus, GAsToN, 1977), en bandos de alimentación (Somateriti mollisima, ASHCROFT, 1976) o de parejas reproductivas (Anas platyrhynchos, ASPLUND, 1981; T1TMAN, 1981; Anser albff’rons, Fox y MADSEN, 1981; Anser brachyrhynchos, LAZARUS e INGUS, 1978; P. pica, BurrRoN, 1983; Erithacus rubecula, EAST, 1982; P. perdix, JENKINS, 1961). Las funciones de este coinportamiento varian, no obstante, y probablemente se trata de verdadera vigilancia antipreclatoria para los arriba citados casos de la Urraca, Anade Real, Ansar Careto Grande, Ansar Piquicorto, Charlatan Estriado y quizá del Petirrojo, mientras que para ci Eider y Perdiz Pardilla se trata más posiblemente de vigilancia de Ia pareja, en un contexto de competen­ cia entre machos.
