Abstract

Al acceder al trono catalanoaragonés y al combinar su soberanía con la regencia castellana, sobre don Fernando no sólo confluyeron dos modos diferentes de relacionarse con el Islam occidental, sino también, y quizás sobre todo, de concebir esas relaciones. Y que, por lo menos en la coyuntura concreta de su ascensión al trono tras haber arrebatado a los musulmanes la plaza de Antequera, esas dos formas de interpretar los contactos eran difícilmente conjugables y casi mutuamente excluyentes. Lo que pretende aquí el autor es, en primer lugar, intentar presentar, a grandes rasgos, sirviéndome precisamente del contenido de los tratados (el arma diplomática con la cual, durante el reinado de Fernando de Antequera, se intentó unificar artificialmente las relaciones exteriores de la Corona de Aragón y de Casti11a con el Islam), esas dos formas dispares de concebir esos contactos. Para que se pueda entender, luego, por qué Fernando de Antequera (pese a ser, teóricamente, en tanto que regente y en tanto que monarca, el último responsable de conciliar la aplicación de esos dos modelos) no pudo compartir ni comprender la visión y la percepción que sus súbditos tenían del comercio con el Islam.
