[EN] In western Asturias, and specifically the Vegadeo area, there is a long timber tradition, but until recently it has not been studied in relation to –or its repercussion on- the manufacture of furniture. The author attempts to describe and document this industrial activity in a rural context, the principal characteristic of which is to have been unique over the past sixty years, apart from better-known handicraft practices.
[ES] El Occidente asturiano y en concreto la zona de Vegadeo tiene una larga tradición maderera, si bien hasta hoy no se ha estudiado su relación o repercusión en la fabricación de mobiliario. Tratamos de describir y documentar esta actividad industrial en un contexto rural, cuya principal característica es haber sido única en los últimos sesenta años, al margen de prácticas artesanales más conocidas.
Esta publicación recoge los primeros resultados del Proyecto de Investigación “Mercado de muebles y objetos decorativos en España. Desde las desamortizaciones a la transición democrática” (HAR2010-20397-C02-01/ARTE), dirigido por la Doctora Ana María Fernández García, adscrito al Plan Nacional de Investigación del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.
