Abstract

La falta de fuentes históricas tanto árabes como cristianas, que ha oscurecido y que aún sigue proyectando algunos claro-oscuros en episodios y personajes del complejo siglo XV nazarí, ha contribuido enormemente a desdibujar esos contornos, aunque haya sido también, precisamente, esa misma carencia la que haya llevado a poner frecuentemente en el punto de mira tradiciones y leyendas -y muy particularmente el romancero- con el fin de determinar su posible historicidad y con la intención de contribuir a rellenar parcialmente algunos de los hiatos de conocimiento. En ese caso, podemos considerar que nos hallamos ante «nuevos mitos» de la frontera, porque no nos enfrentamos a los clásicos "viejos mitos" que se ubican a medio camino entre realidad y leyenda y cuyos orígenes se hunden y pierden en el tiempo y en la tradición, sino a creaciones estrictamente historiográficas y eruditas, que han nacido, han crecido y se han consolidado y perpetuado sólo en la tradición historiográfica.
