[ES] En el año 1987 se inició en la Escuela de Estudios Árabes de Granada una nueva línea de investigación sobre arquitectura islámica fundamentada en el uso de documentación planimétrica rigurosa. Para tal fin se fue poniendo en funcionamiento un equipo de fotogrametría con instrumentación y personal adecuados. Trascurrido ya un período de tiempo significativo, los resultados de este proceso de documentación pueden ser analizados con suficiente perspectiva comprobando los logros alcanzados, tanto a nivel cuantitativo, por el copioso número de edificios documentados, como cualitativo por la mejora de la calidad de información hoy disponible en relación con la existente con anterioridad y por el desarrollo de métodos simplificados que posibilitan un uso extendido de estas técnicas. Por otro lado, la experiencia acumulada en estos años permite hacer una valoración crítica de las nuevas formas de documentación y representación de la arquitectura en relación con los sistemas hasta ahora utilizados.

[EN] In 1987 a new line of research about Islamic architecture was started in the School for Arabic Studies. It was based on the use of accurate planimetric documentation. In order to do so, a photogrammetry team was created with adequate instruments and personnel. After a significant amount of time, the results of this documentation process can be analysed with enough perspective to evaluate how the goals have been achieved, both in quantity, for the high number of buildings that have been surveyed, and in quality, for the improvement of the quality of information available today in relation to that that was available in the past, and for the development of simplified methods that allow an extensive use of these techniques. At the same time, the experience accumulated during these years allows a critical evaluation of the new recording and architectural representation methods in relation with the systems used until now.
