[EN] Taking a social and demographic approach, this article presents a panoramic view of dependency in Spain. After examining the emergence of dependency as a topic of social policy, the article sketches its relevance among the Spanish population using the data provided by the poll administered by the National Statistic Institute called Disability, Personal Autonomy and Dependency Situations. The information is finally summed up applying scaling statistical methods. We posit, on the one hand, the existence of a hierarchical structure of disability and, on the other hand, we propose a simple dependence typology which we consider helpful to classify the majority of the researched population.
