Abstract

En los últimos años se ha dedicado una atención especial a los procesos de biodeterioro derivados del crecimiento de microorganismos en los ambientes hipogeos. Los ambientes hipogeos están constituidos por cuevas, necrópolis y catacumbas. Están caracterizados por presentar temperaturas relativamente bajas y constantes a lo largo del año, elevada humedad relativa, ser relativamente pobres en nutrientes orgánicos y presentar iluminación tenue o nula, excepto en aquellos lugares en los que existe sistemas d iluminación artificial. Los sistemas de iluminación favorecen el desarrollo de biofilms constituidos principalmente por microorganismos fototrofos como cianobacterias, que además soportan el crecimiento de microorganimos heterótrofos, como bacterias y hongos. Mediante el empleo de técnicas de aislamiento basadas en pruebas fisiológicas y bioquímicas, junto con técnicas moleculares basadas en la amplificación de ADN, generalmente del ARNr 16S, se ha demostrado la alta diversidad de microorganismos en los ambientes hipogeos. Los microorganismos cultivados más abundantes en estos ambientes son las Actinobacterias, implicadas en procesos de biodeterioro de las pinturas y obras de arte. Dentro del grupo de las Actinobacterias destaca la presencia del género Agromyces hasta ahora vinculado a ambientes diferentes de los hipogeos. El objetivo de esta tesis es hacer una revisión taxonómica del género Agromyces y descripción de nuevas especies aisladas de ambientes hipogeos.
