Abstract

(EN) The lithic artifacts discovered in archaeological sites were generally knapped from different raw materials that show specific characteristics (e.g. composition, texture, thickness of grains, hardness). This study presents the case of the Yamana, Tierra del Fuego hunter-gatherers adapted to the utilisation of sea resources, who knapped their lithic artifacts from igneous rocks such as rhyolitc, cinerite and ignimbrite. We ha ve studied the relationship between the functions and the different raw materials used at the Yamana site of Tunel VII, by means of the microwear analysis and petrographic characterization of thin sections, and by mcans of X-ray diffraction. The results of these two analyses ha ve been put in relation, to know whether the choice of raw material could depend on the activity to which the tool was devoted.
