Abstract

[EN]: We studied the effect of restoration practices on 17 soil variables on river banks of a wetland located next to the Doñana National Park (SW Spain). At the beginning of the 70s, this area had been partially drained for agricultural uses, by digging open channels. During the 2000-2001 dry seasons (June-October), most of the channels were filled by bulldozers, using the topsoil of the surrounding natural areas as filling materials. Three different kinds of topsoil material are compared: that of sites unaffected by restoration practices (control); that of dug sites (whose topsoil had been removed, exposing the underlying horizons), and that of refilled channels.
