Abstract

El estudio de las causas del deterioro que experimentaban las pinturas murales de Vázquez Díaz en el Monasterio de Santa María de la Rábida marcó, en el año 1979, (Saiz-Jimenez y Samson 1981) el punto de partida de una ya larga trayectoria investigadora dedicada a la resolución de problemas de conservación del Patrimonio Cultural. Desde aquel primer momento a nuestros días, los distintos integrantes del grupo han centrado su interés investigador en muchos otros elementos, muebles e inmuebles, del Patrimonio Cultural. Esta actividad investigadora se ha estructurado en cuatro líneas principales: i) biodeterioro de materiales; ii) conservación de conjuntos arqueológicos; iii) efectos de la contaminación atmosférica sobre los monumentos; y iv) conservación de pinturas rupestres en cuevas y abrigos. Estas cuatro líneas básicas han encontrado financiación en más de cincuenta proyectos de investigación obtenidos en convocatorias competitivas tanto de carácter internacional, como nacional y bilateral desde 1986 a la actualidad.
