Tra 'oppinioni' e 'dispareri': la flora americana nell'erbario di Pier'Antonio Michiel (1510-1576)

Abstract

A la questione di rintracciare quali fonti di informazione testuali e iconografiche servirono a Pier' Antonio Michiel per includere piu di una quarantina di figure di piante americane nel suo "Erbario" e aggiungere diversi "oppinioni" e "dispareri" nelle rispettive annotazioni, la nostra ipotesi iniziale è stata quella di considerare del tutto centrali i rapporti avuti da Michiel con Giambattista Ramusio, testimoniati non soltanto dalle citazioni fatte nei suoi commentari nell' Erbario, ma anche da altri «indizi» che si possono cogliere nella sua opera. Infatti, come vedremo, vi sono altri spunti che consentono di stabilire un legame piu stretto tra Michiel nei primi anni del suo lavoro sulle piante (tutti gli studiosi concordano che l'inizio della stesura del suo Erbario risalga all'anno 1550) e il circolo del Ramusio, caratterizzato dai rapporti che lo stesso segretario del Consiglio dei Dieci e i suoi colleghi Pietro Bembo e Girolamo Fracastoro intrattenevano col cronista spagnolo Gonzalo Femández de Oviedo
