Les relíquies de Sant Galderic, una parada a Barcelona, en el Camí de Sant Jaume

Abstract

La ciutat gallega de Santiago de Compostel·la -on es venera la tamba de l'apòstol sant Jaume- va ser, juntament amb Roma i Jerusalem, un dels principals indrets de pelegrinatge de la Cristiandat a l'Edat Mitjana i, fins i tot, a la Moderna. Cal tenir en compte, pero, que els camins que conduïen a aquests llocs, varen atraure també pelegrins cap als centres de culte que s'hi trobaven a prop. Un fet semblant s'esdevingué amb els pelegrins que es dirigien a Compostel·la i passaven per Barcelona. Quan es trobaven en aquesta ciutat, sens dubte, anaven a venerar les relíquies objecte de culte, entre les quals tingueren especial importància, a l'epoca moderna, les de Sant Galderic, també anomenat Galdric, el patró dels pagesos catalans. Aquest argument és el que justifica la relació d'aquesta comunicació amb el Congrés sobre el Camí de Sant Jaume i Catalunya. La comunicació s'estructura en quatre apartats. En el primer es parla de qui era Sant Galderic i de la primera etapa del seu culte, consistent en la veneració de la seva tomba a la regió de Tolosa (França). En el segon apartat, tractem del trasllat de les relíquies de sant Galderic al monestir de Sant Martí del Canigó, és a dir, la segona etapa del culte al sant. En el tercer apartat, ens referim al període de temps, ja a l'epoca moderna, en el qual aquestes relíquies foren venerades, pels molts miracles que se li atribulen, al monestir de Sant Pau del Camp de Barcelona i, per consegüent, pels pelegrins que, tot passant per la ciutat comtal, es dirigien a visitar el cos de sant Jaume de Galícia. I el quart apartat fa referencia al retom a França de les relíquies de Sant Galderic, bé que se'n conserva una petita part a Barcelona.
