Dentro dos factores bióticos que afectan ao desenvolvemento da vide, e que son determinantemente negativos na produtividade e na calidade do viño, atópanse as enfermidades producidas por fungos (mildiu, ovidio, botrytis...). En Galicia, as condicións de humidade e temperatura nas que se atopan os viñedos, favorecen a aparición deste tipo de enfermidades como o Mildiu, provocado por un fungo chamado Plasmopara viticola.
