Valor agronómico de los cultivos de Brassica oleracea en Galicia

Abstract

En Galicia, las coles (nombre genérico de las variedades de B. oleracea) son la hortaliza por antonomasia, con una superficie de 3.534 ha y con una producción de 90.480 t (MAPA, 2002). Desde un punto de vista nutricional se consideran productos con un bajo contenido en grasa y proteína y alto contenido en fibras, vitaminas y minerales (Rosa, 1999). Dentro de las coles, la berza (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) constituye el cultivo mayoritario y presenta un aprovechamiento tanto hortícola como forrajero de las parte verdes. En trabajos previos se realizaron evaluaciones agronómicas y morfológicas de 210 variedades de berzas gallegas, lo que permitió efectuar el primer cribado de aquellas variedades que destacaron negativamente por su mal comportamiento en campo y por una escasa aceptación por parte del consumidor. Se realizó un análisis de grupos y se escogió la colección representativa para futuras evaluaciones críticas. El objetivo del presente trabajo consiste en evaluar agronómicamente la colección representativa de berzas mantenida en la Misión Biológica de Galicia (MBG) con el fin de seleccionar los mejores genotipos.
