Modelización climática: una aplicación práctica en Galicia

Abstract

[EN] Preliminary results of a climate model for estimating monthly mean temperatures and precipitation in any point of Galicia (NW Spain) are presented. The model is based in a geographical division of Galicia’s territory in stratums with homogeneous temperature-altitude and precipitation-altitude relations. This geographical stratification was carried out on the basis of the hydrologic basins map 1:200.000, locking for maximise the correlation between the altitude and the climate parameter using spatial correlation techniques. The methodology used is presented and the model efficiency is analysed by comparing real and estimated data in the weather stations. On the basis of the spatial and temporal stratification proposed, the vertical temperature gradient varies between –0.3 and –1.3 ºC/100 m and the latitudinal temperature gradient varies between –5 and +7 ºC/100 Km. The mean quarterly vertical precipitation gradient was 37 mm/100 m, varying between 16 mm/100 m in summer and 61 mm/100 m in winter. The model showed an important improvement in the estimation of monthly mean temperatures and precipitation in relation to the conventional methods.
