Agricultura de regadío y calidad de aguas a nivel fuente y sumidero

Abstract

La calidad de las aguas es una variable fundamental en la agricultura de regadío, tanto a nivel fuente (aguas de riego y su impacto interno sobre cultivos y suelos) como a nivel sumidero (retornos de riego y su impacto externo sobre la calidad de los sistemas receptores). En este trabajo se resumen las variables principales que determinan la aptitud de calidad de las aguas para el riego desde el punto de vista de los cultivos (salinidad del agua de riego, fracción de lavado y tolerancia de los cultivos a la salinidad) y de los suelos (salinidad, sodicidad y alcalinidad del agua de riego, y estabilidad estructural de los suelos). La respuesta de cultivos y suelos es ambiente-dependiente, por lo que se proponen distintas metodologías de campo para su cuantificación. Asimismo, se sintetizan algunos problemas y medidas correctoras respecto a los sistemas de riego y la salinidad, resaltando la salinización y sodificación potencial de los suelos bajo riego deficitario controlado. Por otro lado, las exigencias de protección de la calidad de las aguas emanadas de la Directiva Marco Europea del Agua y del Plan Hidrológico Nacional implican el establecimiento de Redes de Vigilancia Ambiental de Regadíos como la desarrollada en la cuenca del Ebro. Estas redes implican en último término cuantificar la masa exportada de contaminantes en los retornos de riego, variable fundamental para determinar la contaminación difusa inducida por el regadío. Finalmente, se sintetizan las estrategias más eficientes a nivel fuente y sumidero para el control de dicha contaminación.
