Moving to Spain for some European retired, to live temporary or permanently, is a clear example of a model of geographical mobility of the population that generally happens when they exit the labor market. This is a movement with a great tradition in the United States or Australia. In the European ambit, this phenomenon has been called "international migration of retired" where Spain has been the main destination. This is a relatively new phenomenon although it is gaining importance, nor so much for its numerical values but because of its influence in local ambits.
This paper was done partially with the information obtained from the research project "European retired immigrants in Andalucia" (CICYT SEC9S-0(20) and from papers done in the ESP Exploratory Workshop "European dimensions on changing retirement", 1999.
