Illegl pine-timber extraction provokes a progressive loss of vegetal cover and an increment of the risk of erosion; the consequence is a devaluation of soil quality. Along a forest topo-sequence over volcanic soils, several soil indicators related with the limitant factors of the system and soil functions were evaluate. COS, CEC, PSB, macroscopic organic matter, bulk density and soil hardness showed worse values in the more degraded points. Other properties, however (C/N, phosphate retetion, NaF pH) were constant in all cases.
