(EN) TScience books first appear as such during the Renaissance, practically at the same time as the printing press. Yet we often forget that science popularisation books have always accompanied the history of scientific publications, although maintaining a complex and not always trouble-free relationship. The will to bring science to different publics, from the most specialist to the most profane, has been present throughout the centuries, though not always with the same intensity or with the same interests and objectives. These pages sketch a panorama of the rise, development and profound changes that science books have undergone, taking into consideration the coeval presence of popularisation books over four centuries.
