Abstract

[ES]: Las dificultades que conlleva la diferenciación de marcas de corte de estrías producidas por otros agentes tafonómicos (v.g. pisoteo, raíces o marcas de dientes) han sido objeto de discusión en las tres ultimas décadas. Experimentos sobre procesamiento y consumo de animales han proporcionado información sobre el modo de aprovechamiento de los tejidos blandos de un animal y han permitido realizar observaciones sobre las actividades efectuadas (extracción de piel, carne o ligamentos), el número de estrías que se producen en los huesos descarnados o el tipo de huella resultante. La mayoría de esos trabajos también contemplan las características morfológicas de las marcas teniendo en cuenta la interacción de todas esas variables. Sin embargo, en la morfología de los cortes, una variable destacada es la materia prima utilizada. El trabajo que presentamos es una recopilación de datos de diferentes experimentos en los que se han evaluado las diferencias morfológicas existentes en la producción de marcas de corte con herramientas líticas hechas con distinta materia prima. La elección de las materias primas se ha basado en las existentes en mayor o menor abundancia en los yacimientos de Gibraltar y Atapuerca atendiendo la coincidencia de esas materias primas (caliza, sílex, cuarcita) o su singularidad (valvas de mejillón). Este estudio ha permitido identificar diferencias en la morfología de los cortes y obtener criterios diagnósticos que permitirán atribuir las marcas de corte fósiles a instrumentos líticos de una materia prima concreta. Se trata, no obstante, de resultados preliminares que están siendo aún objeto de estudio.

[EN]: Difficulties differentiating between cut marks and other marks produced by mimic agents (e.g.: trampling, roots or tooth marks), have extensively been discussed during the last three decades. Several experiments on butchery processes of carcasses have been carried out to establish traits of cut marks. These experimental works have provided information about the extraction of soft tissues and butchery activities, as well as number, location and types of striations produced. Most of these experiments have also described morphological traits of individual cuts taking into consideration all different parameters involved. One of these parameters that have important incidence on the resulting cut is the raw material used to make the stone tool. This paper is a compilation of several of these experiments carried out by the authors. The raw material used in these experiments has been chosen based on the coincidence of two sites extensively studied by the authors, Gibraltar and Atapuerca. This study has allowed us to establish morphological differences and obtain diagnostic criteria to be applied to fossils. These are, however, preliminary results which study is still in progress.
