Abstract

El pastoreo en cortafuegos se ha establecido como una herramienta de prevención de incendios en buena parte de Andalucía. Para poder evaluar a esta escala los resultados obtenidos mediante el pastoreo, se diseñó un protocolo de seguimientos ligeros basados en tasas de consumo del estrato herbáceo y de especies arbustivas. Los resultados obtenidos en su primer año de aplicación muestran un consumo promedio del estrato herbáceo de 2,3 (rango: 0,3 a 4,0, sobre una escala de mínimo 0 y máximo 5) mientras que el estrato arbustivo promedió 1,7 (rango: 0,3 a 3,0, escala de 0 a 6). Analizando las especies arbustivas por separado, 18 taxones alcanzaron valores superiores a 2. Entre ellos, se seleccionaron Rosa sp., Crataegus monogyna, Prunus ramburii y Quercus ilex como especies indicadoras idóneas, por ser muy frecuentes y sensibles al pastoreo. Las tasas de consumo se reelaboraron para cada unidad de seguimiento, calculando dos indicadores del nivel de pastoreo que, con matices, ofrecieron resultados similares. En global, la presión de pastoreo registrada fue inferior a la deseable para una reducción efectiva del riesgo de incendios, si bien el 40% de las unidades de seguimiento alcanzaron una calificación Media o Alta de pastoreo.
