The purpose of this work has been to providea general review or the present knowledge about the role of copper in the plant biochemical processes. Copper has a great tendency to bind organic molecules, it can also change its oxidation state and therefore is involved in electron transport redox reactions. This two facts make of copper an essential oligoelement for plant life. An extensive review about the function of copper, since its form in the soil to the leaf cell has been carried out. Its role as prostetic group or catalyst in several enzymatic reactions is explained, in particular its function as regulator in photosynthesis.
