[EN]: We carried out biochemical analysis to determine the existence of both quantitative and qualitative variations in the major olive pollen allergen, Ole e I, of several table and oil cultivars. The results reveal a high quantitative intervariety variriabilty, although the allergen was present in all cultivars analyzed, representing a high percentage of the total protein found in the pollen grain. These findings lead us to the conclusion that the allergen must play an essential role during olive pollen development and we may consider the validity of this protein as a molecular marker for discrimination purposes among cultivars.
