Abstract

A partir del estudio de coyunturas particulares de distintos países y regiones de América Latina, la intención de este conjunto de artículos, debatidos previamente por la mayoría de los autores en seminarios y reuniones de discusión en el marco del Proyecto HeterQuest, es propiciar una reflexión sobre el concepto de heterogeneidad social, sus sentidos y usos, que además de histórica sea también interdisciplinar. Se pretende poner de relieve tensiones ocultas que desde el pasado, incluso el más remoto, se proyectan al presente y que han contribuido a que dicho concepto se eleve actualmente a la categoría de atributo distintivo y característico de la región. Los diagnósticos sociales a los que aquí nos referimos, entendidos como conjunto de acciones de mediación, son procesos colectivos que traslucen la existencia de proyectos que implican un deber ser propositivo que se nutre de una fuerte base imaginaria y que contribuyen muchas veces a moldear la realidad social que pretenden describir
