Abstract

[EN]: Protein profiles of crude pollen extracts corresponding to 19 widespread Andalusian olive cultivars were analysed by SDS-PAGE. The results obtained show a high degree of inter-varietal variability in these profiles, in which qualitative and quantitative differences, mainly concerning the amount of the major allergen Ole e 1, have been established. Thus, this protein could play an outstanding role as a molecular marker able to discriminate between cultivars, as well as to assess the allergenic potential of cultivars. The tests used here have a potential utility to characterize low-allergenic varieties for agricultural or ornamental uses.
