Abstract

[EN] The development of the continuous digital geological cartography) at a scale of 1:50,000 of the large Spanish Continental Cenozoic Basins (SCCB), carried out in the framework of the GEODE project (IGME), involved the creation of a set of individual legends for each of these basins. These legends have been made through a stratigraphic and cartographic follow up of the boundaries between the various units discriminated in each of the basins and a thorough analysis of the bio-, chrono- and magnetostratigraphy of each of them. The comparison between the different legends has revealed the existence of infill stages, some previously known, with a high degree of synchrony between them. In order to meet the standards of the CN IGME-CSIC, as a Geological Service, the different infill stages present in the legends have been divided into Allostratigraphic Units (NASC, 2005) since these are the most appropriate and objective for the systematic cartography of the SCCB, as their minimizes the genetic or causal interpretations of the discontinuities that delimit them. In order to facilitate the classification of the different units of each of the basins, as well as the comparison between basins as well as allows to be used at different work scales, a systematic alphanumeric nomenclature is proposed.
