[EN] This work is a general approach to the role that alcazabas played in al‑Andalus. To do so, we analyze some of the examples that have provided us with the most information. We also study their urban aspects, that is, the different ways in which they were established in each city, the connection they had with the most important urban elements, and their projection beyond the walls. Lastly, we examine the multiple functions they performed: defensive, administrative, ceremonial, residential, and exhibition, concluding that, due to their important role as the seat and image of political‑military power, these fortified enclosures become an essential element when analyzing any madīna.
