Abstract

[EN[ This article presents a new Phoenincian inscription found by chance in a small cove in the town of Alcossebre (Comunitat Valenciana, Spain). It is a short text dating from the end of the 7th or the first half of the 6th century BC, written on a wooden tablet (in an exceptional state of preservation) partially covered by a mass of iron (which could have been part of a kind of case). The table must have been used as a commercial label to identify goods by their owner, shipper, agent or addressee. Its apparent subsequent storage in a case also suggests that it was intended to be reused for the same pirpose or that it had a second use with a different function. It is therefore an exceptional find, as an example of the intense trade that took place in the Levant of the Iberian Peninsula at that time and of the procedures used by the Phoenicians to manage it.
