Abstract

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are mate- rials that combine properties of their precur- sor polymers, such as the high temperature processability of thermoplastics and the high deformation of elastomers. Thermoplastic elastomers vulcanized (TPV) are a variant of TPE, whose characteristic is that the dis- persed phase (rubber) is vulcanized into a thermoplastic matrix such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE). Currently, most of the TPV market is dominated by those of synthetic origin such as polymeric blends of ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) with PP. This is due to their low cost, wide service temperature, and good mechanical proper- ties, among other things. However, with the growing interest in the development of sus- tainable technologies, natural rubber (NR) is an interesting option for the development of these materials that offers an alternative for both the market and research.
