Abstract

[EN] A structural description of the Cañamares shear zone, at the eastern end of the Spanish Central System, is made here. It is a structure from the Variscan D3 phase, located in the Central Iberian Zone. Its general attitude is N-S to N160ºE and vertical. The horizontal displacement accommodated by the shear zone in the is right lateral. The orientation of the S3 foliation and the crenulation lineation (L3) associated with the shear zone has allowed the application of a kinematic analytical model of transpression. The shear zone would have acted as a monoclinic ( = 0º) or slightly triclinic ( = 10º) transpressive structure, with vertical extrusion, and vorticity values in the field of the predominance of simple shearing (Wk > 0.81). This kinematics predicts the reorientation of previous fabrics near the shear zone, such as the L2 lineation. The direction of convergence between the blocks separated by the shear zone would be N-S to NNW-SSE, which must be interpreted in the complex framework of the tectonic evolution of the Iberian Variscan belt during the formation of the oroclines.
